Perceptions and what we really see...

Rules:

As you read the following sentence quietly to yourself...count the number of F's you see.

Don't cheat!  Just read it and see how many you can find...

THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.

Answer is one of the comments for this post...how did you do?

For reflection:

We think we see clearly and have all the answers...do we take the time in our lives to truly see what's in front of us?  All around us?  God is in all things we say, but we too often limit what that means!

"Whatever you do to the least..."

"It's blacks move and they've got checkmate whenever they want."

Connecting with Different Youth

Thought this video had some good stuff to share...not as diverse as we know youth are, but a clear way to challenge us in reaching out to youth from all walks of life.

Also, see if you can find the typo!  My Spanish grammar teacher-side is coming out...looking for typos.  Sorry.

I like how toward the end, we are asked to question why we only reach the youth we reach...food for thought for me!

God Is Love

Just sharing this prayer from Pedro Arrupe, S.J., long serving superior general of the Jesuits...a friend offered the following thoughts to add even more depth to Fr. Arrupe's prayer...God = Love...replace the word love with God...

Pretty cool.

Nothing is more practical than finding God.  That is to say: than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way.  What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.  It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning, what you will do with your evernings, how you will spend your weekends, what you read, what you know, what breaks your heart and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.  Fall in love.  Stay in love.  It will decide everything.

We Are...

We are called and challenged to be the Body of Christ.

What does that look like or sound like for each of us?

Clever video below...

Peace or Piece of Peace?

The death of Osama bin Laden reminded me of this prayer below by Sr. Joan Chittister.

Also wanted to encourage you to check out the Millenial Catholic blog...poignant reflections after this event.  http://millennialcatholic.com/2011/05/02/love-your-enemies-like-osama-bin-laden/

PRAYER FOR WORLD PEACE
By Joan D. Chittister, OSB

Great God, who has told us "Vengeance is Mine,"
Save us from ourselves,
Save us from the vengeance in our hearts
And the acid in our souls.

Save us from our desire to hurt as we have been hurt,
To punish as we have been punished,
To terrorize as we have been terrorized.

Give us the strength it takes
To listen rather than to judge,
To trust rather than to fear,
To try again and again
To make peace even when peace eludes us.

We ask, O God, for the grace
To be our best selves.
We ask for the vision to be builders of the human community
Rather than its destroyers.
We ask for the humility as a people
To understand the fears and hopes of other peoples.
We ask for the love it takes
To bequeath to the children of the world to come
More than the failures of our own making.
We ask for the heart it takes to care for all the peoples
Of Afghanistan and Iraq, of Palestine and Israel
As well as for ourselves.

Give us the depth of soul, O God,
To constrain our might,
To resist the temptations of power,
To refuse to attack the attackable,
To understand that vengeance begets violence,
And to bring peace, not war, wherever we go.

For You, O God, have been merciful to us.
For You, O God, have been patient with us.
For You, O God, have been gracious to us.

And so, may we be merciful
And patient
And gracious
And trusting
With these others who You also love.

This we ask through Jesus,
The One without vengeance in his heart.
This we ask forever and ever. Amen

Center for Faith Justice

Catholic Social Teaching in a profound, faith-filled experience for high school students.

Each day a gift...

This is an amazing video showing one photo of this young lady's life for her first ten years.  What messages can we find in something like this?

How have we changed as we've gotten older?

How precious is each day?

Do we take time to recognize the "details" of our lives?  Do we appreciate who we are...with all the changes and growth?

What does growth look like for us?
